As a big fan of Arkham Horror, the successful board game by Fantasy Flight Games, I had looked forward to reading this mixkatonic with great anticipation.
Once again, the quality of writing and prose is of a very high caliber.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t so. A lot of it is definitely step-up and with so much groundwork laid down for later books, it should probably be best regarded as the first part of a greater tale. All together, still a fun book. It makes absolutely no sense and completely ruined the story for me.

I felt the characters were weak in the story. This is due to the very modern way the characters are portrayed without any bias concerning racism, religion, etc. A good helping of graphic violence is available, for the benefit of those who are drawn to mikatonic combat element in the games, I suppose.
So overall, did enjoy the book. It goes from the name of the main characters called investigators in the gameto more subtle elements like the apparition of a portal to gjouls world during the fight with the Migo and the description of the stores yhe as the level of terror was going up in Arkham. In other words, this god destroys his worshipers, vhouls of empowering them to open a portal to bring the god through to this world where it can rule supreme.
